Tortuguero, meaning “turtle catcher”, is an archipelago created by a network of canals and volcanic formations located in the north Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Since it was declared a National Park in 1970, it currently protects over 19,000 hectares that include 11 habitats, 2000 species of plants and 400 tree species that give shelter to monkeys, several species of birds, macaws, sloths and jaguars and of course, their main attraction: Green, Hawksbills and Leatherback sea turtles. It can only be accessed by boat, which makes it part of the adventure. This is definitely a place for nature lovers and wildlife adventurers.
